The History of Doodleville continued
Concerned about well being of paritioners coming to Jackson to work in agriculture and
commerce, Father Dutto bought a large area of land south of the city and subdivided it into lots which could support
both a house and a garden. He also established a brick factory to provide bricks for home construction in the area.
Named after its founder, records indicate that Duttoville was incorporated as a town and elected Mr. J. T. Root
as it's first and only Mayor. Eventually, Dottoville was annexed into the city limits of Jackson and over time it became a primarily industrial area. Early residents mistakenly called it "Doodleville", a name that continues to be used to identify that area of the city.
Located in South Central Jackson, Doodleville‘s boundaries extend north to Town Creek, east to the Pearl River
and the railroad tracks on the West. The western boundary was later expanded from
the railroad tracks to Terry Road.

Doodleville Community Development Center
The Doodleville Community Development Center (DCDC) is a non-profit organization which was established with a view to rendering assistance to residents of Doodleville, which is a suburb in south west Jackson, Mississippi.
Doodleville is plagued with many socio-economic ills; poverty, HIV, illiteracy, unemployment, urban decay, drug abuse, teen-pregnancy, lack of access to health care. The Community Center aims to reach out to the people of the community to improve their quality of life.
DCDC is located at 1717 SW Street, Jackson, 39201. The Founder and Executive Director is Pastor David K. Jones.
At present the Community Center offers some basic services to the community, these are as follows:
- After school program for children from Kindergarten to the 12th Grade the children are assisted with their homework, and engage in games and physical activity.
- Adults: GED classes and literacy classes
- Counseling and outreach to recently released inmates
- In partnership with the Christian Organization Mission First, the Community Center has accessed primary health care for un-insured residents.
- The Center distributes food toys and clothing
Founder and Executive Director David Jones, offers counseling to the members of the community in family life, family planning and personal crises.
- Job Readiness Training
The Outreach of the Center is limited however, due to the absence of funding.
There is a dire need for outreach programs and projects, including the tutoring of high school students and mentoring to lessen the drop out rate; training for the enhancement of job skills, life skills, job and career counseling including job placement. Such programs help to improve the overall standard of living and quality of life. Persons become better qualified for better paying jobs and in some cases are able to start up their own small businesses all of which improve the over all community by ripple effect.
Below you will find a list of additional services that the center wishes to offer when funded. They would also like to be able to increase their present capacity and offer present services to a greater number of persons.
- Job and career training and counseling
- Job readiness training
- Parenting and family life seminars and counseling
- Personal finance classes and seminars
- Nutrition and life style counseling
- Tutoring for students preparing for the SATs
Vocational apprenticeship for youth within the Jackson business community
- In summer 2010 an ‘ambassadorial’ trip is earmarked for 10 inner city young persons to travel to the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Nevis as these islands share a common history.
The Center is seeking monetary and in kind donations from individuals and the business community of Jackson; we also are looking for volunteer businesses to participate in the apprenticeship program where young persons can train on the job so as to acquire job skills. Our business partners would be asked to pay the young apprentices / trainees a small stipend during the training period.
